Originally from Lévis, Sophie has been teaching jazz dance in the recreational sector as well as in the dance-studies program at Élédanse dance school since 2005. She began jazz and classical dance at 11 years old and then discovered swing in 2000 at the young age of 15 years old. She quickly became involved in swing dance teams and attending out of town workshops and competitions (2nd place in Team division at the US Open in 2003, 3rd place in Swing couple at the Canadian Swing Championships in 2004 and more recently, 2nd place in Jack & Jill novice West coast swing at the Montreal Westie fest in 2018). There has been other competitions, but due to a lack of archiving … and memory, at a time when youtube did not yet exist, we lost track!
Meanwhile, Sophie continued her training in jazz dance. In a wild impulse in 2008 she decided to enroll in an international student program in a dance school in New York (Dance New Amsterdam), for 10 months (2008 and 2010). The training focused on jazz, contemporary and ballet. Seeing the importance of being a Swiss Army Knife in order to be able to make a living from her art, she decided to do her Pilates Instructor Certification (Ann McMillan Pilates) in addition to her dance trainning in 2013-14. In 2017, she founded La Swing Ambassade with Lily Thibodeau in a spontanious bet! The best bet she ever did! And she lived happily ever after …
